Work Hardening / Work Conditioning

General Information

The Phys-Assess Work Hardening Program, developed by a Licensed Physical Therapist in conjunction with related health disciplines, is a work oriented treatment process in an individualized form that involves the injured in a variety of activities that simulate job related work tasks.

This program, based on the results of a Functional Capacity Evaluation is structured to increase physical tolerance, endurance, stamina, and productivity with the goal of safe return to work with a reduced risk of re-injury.

Injured workers who received medical and rehabilitative treatment for a muscoskeletal dysfunction and have achieved stable recovery or workers who are about to re-enter the work force while continuing medical rehabilitation will benefit greatly from this program.  This program can also benefit the worker who has a major discrepancy between belief of a symptom and objective findings or who is "pain disabled."

Our experienced physical therapists assist treating physicians as well as rehabilitation specialists to evaluate the jobs that a worker can perform, or aid in finding alternatives for special requirements.

Phys-Assess Program

The Phys-Assess Program is designed to improve a worker's functional capacities to allow a faster return to pre-injury level. Although program duration may vary according to the framework of needs as determined by the FCE, the average program length is six to eight weeks.  The worker is progressed from an initial half-day work day to a full-day of functional activity by programs end.  The program can accommodate any ongoing medical and physical therapy treatments within the schedule.
